Chaotic oscillation and random-number generation based on nanoscale optical-energy transfer

چکیده
By using nanoscale energy-transfer dynamics and density matrix formalism, we demonstrate theoretically and numerically that chaotic oscillation and random-number generation occur in a nanoscale system. The physical system consists of a pair of quantum dots (QDs), with one QD smaller than the other, between which energy transfers via optical near-field interactions. When the system is pumped by continuous-wave radiation and incorporates a timing delay between two energy transfers within the system, it emits optical pulses. We refer to such QD pairs as nano-optical pulsers (NOPs). Irradiating an NOP with external periodic optical pulses causes the oscillating frequency of the NOP to synchronize with the external stimulus. We find that chaotic oscillation occurs in the NOP population when they are connected by an external time delay. Moreover, by evaluating the time-domain signals by statistical-test suites, we confirm that the signals are sufficiently random to qualify the system as a random-number generator (RNG). This study reveals that even relatively simple nanodevices that interact locally with each other through optical energy transfer at scales far below the wavelength of irradiating light can exhibit complex oscillatory dynamics. These findings are significant for applications such as ultrasmall RNGs.

Generation of wideband chaos with suppressed time-delay signature by delayed self-interference.
We demonstrate experimentally and numerically a method using the incoherent delayed self-interference (DSI) of chaotic light from a semiconductor laser with optical feedback to generate wideband chaotic signal. The results show that, the DSI can eliminate the domination of laser relaxation oscillation existing in the chaotic laser light and therefore flatten and widen the power spectrum. Furthe...
متن کاملNonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems
Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...
متن کاملImage encryption based on chaotic tent map in time and frequency domains
The present paper is aimed at introducing a new algorithm for image encryption using chaotic tent maps and the desired key image. This algorithm consists of two parts, the first of which works in the frequency domain and the second, in the time domain. In the frequency domain, a desired key image is used, and a random number is generated, using the chaotic tent map, in order to change the phase...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Slipping Wear based on the Rate of Entropy Generation
Wear is a complicated phenomenon caused by the relative movement of two contacting surfaces compressed together by a normal force. Prediction of the wear, in most cases, requires various experiments and microstructural characterization of the contacting surfaces. Mathematical models based on physical concepts could provide considerable help in understanding the physical behavior and hence the p...

A simple computational algorithm is proposed for visualization of time-averaged moiré fringes. Timeaveraging numerical techniques can be exploited for the construction of a cryptographic hash function. It appears that visualization of values of that hash function at continuously increasing amplitude of harmonic oscillation can produce interesting optical patterns. Chaotic and visually intriguin...
